thinking about cloud and the next step SDDC
Hi everyone
Here is a little thinking about what's going on Inside the Datacenter and what will be IT future job.
Since the begining of 2009 we start talking about cloud computing, something logic because it is the next step of virtualization, and now we start to see the next step SDDC. It is also a logic enhancement of cloud. Companies may fill happy because now they became more productive, Datacenter cost less due to automation. But something, or more precisly have been forgotten Inside the equation : the IT man.
The IT job will change destricly in the next few year with SDDC because the VMware guy may become the admin of a full Datacenter (for the virtual hardware part) that's include Security, networking, SAN and compute, No more silos... So what is the choice of the company, paying more the VMware IT guy to do more or train other people to SDDC solution. I think the second option should be the best but that's only a personal felling.
The other side of SDDC that no one mention about is process changes Inside IT jobs. One objective of SDDC is to get a higher level of automation with SLA (cloud constant), so IT will be able to spend more time on business need and less time on Datacenter. My experience in IT and Datacenter remember me this point take care of your Datacenter because if you don't it will take care of you.
Other doctrin, My firewall is my best enemy friend...
So we must not forget to transform IT business before going to SDDC and IT must have enough time to check and control Datacenter regulary because when isn't done you'll get a very complex problem to solve with a limited time due to your SLA.
Planification must be the mainstream of going to cloud and SDDC, you must set some clear objective, and a realistic goal that everyone will accept because some people will have to change their IT job.
