thinking about cloud and the next step SDDC

Hi everyone Here is a little thinking about what's going on Inside the Datacenter and what will be IT future job. Since the begining of 2009 we start talking about cloud computing, something logic because it is the next step of virtualization, and now we start to see the next step SDDC. It is also a logic enhancement of cloud. Companies may fill happy because now they became more productive, Datacenter cost less due to automation. But something, or more precisly have been forgotten Inside the equation : the IT man. The IT job will change destricly in the next few year with SDDC because the VMware guy may become the admin of a full Datacenter (for the virtual hardware part) that's include Security, networking, SAN and compute, No more silos... So what is the choice of the company, paying more the VMware IT guy to do more or train other people to SDDC solution. I think the second option should be the best but that's only a personal felling. The other side of SDDC that

private cloud can be done in four steps with Cisco UCS

Image
A successfull move to private cloud can be done in four steps, first automation of complex and frequent IT task like provisioning, second define a service catalog and a self service interface so user will be more efficient in their demands and they will know what kind of service that it is delivered thru SLA. Step three focuses on orchestrating and automating the back-end processes for service delivery This step includes automating the provisioning and configuration of each component that makes up the service in the right order and in compliance with Policy. Step four encompasses updates to operational processes and systems, which are critical components of effective service management. We will have automated health compliance in this step, optimized ressource pool... With UCS blade you can also include your hardware in your IAAS, because automation is built Inside blade design and so you get a blade as a service. http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps11869/prod_white_papers_list.

Vmware Vcops FAQ part 1

Image
Here is a small post about VMware Operation manager (VCOPS) FAQ First What is VCOPS? It s a tool to monitor VMware vsphere infrastructure and to have a good view about the evolution of you vsphere environnement. How do i install it? VCOPS is a virtual Appliance so go to VMware web site https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/evalcenter?p=vcenter-ops57 download the virtual Appliance, then open vcenter, file, deploy OVF, and follow instruction. Normally VCOPS need DHCP range and you may be stuck during the importation due to this. So Inside vcenter, go to host and cluster, then click on your Datacenter, go to IP pool, then set an IP pool. When this is done restart the import of the ovf. How do i set optimal settings Inside vcops    Go to option and copy the setting as shown       How do i update Vcops? go to Vcops webconsole, (add /admin after the name of your vcops website), login, and go to update, select the package you have downloaded from VM

Why cloud still not there when virtualization have been done

Hello Most of companies have completed or nearly completed to virtualize their servers. They also have done some automation and have made some sort of reporting with or without buying some tools. So why don't they go to the cloud? It is a question of education and security. Let me explain, when companies have heard about first about cloud they have heard two speeches, it s cheaper and it s dangerous when talking about security. So first let me tell you cloud is not always cheaper is depends of your usage. Second, Cloud is dangerous because you haven't secure your virtualization solution. When you have moved to virtualzation, most of you have downgraded their security, espacially network security. Now we have two kinds of network, physical and virtual. Your Network security is based on a physical network in most of the company and not on virtual, but now you have more connected more items on a virtual switch than a physical one, so you began to see the problem...

Upgrading hosts from ESX to ESXi in eight steps

Upgrading hosts from ESX to ESXi in eight steps The next release of vSphere won't include VMware ESX, so you may be unsure how to upgrade your ESX hosts to ESXi hosts. Unfortunately there is no magic bullet, and as with all upgrades, you should not rush into it without being prepared. In this article, I will provide a suggested methodology. 1. Understand the differences between ESX and ESXi First, you need a good understanding of the differences between ESX and ESXi. The two hypervisors run the same VMkernel, but managing ESXi is different from management ESX. ( VMware provides a basic ESX vs. ESXi comparison on its website and a more detailed one in the ESX vs. ESXi 4.1 KnowledgeBase article .) ESX and ESXi used to differ considerably, but vSphere 4.1 addressed most of them and the two hypervisors are now on par with each other. More on VMware ESXi Why users say 'nay' to the big ESX-ESXi switch Wanted: Command-line chops for ESXi Installing VMwa
